hopkinsville event 713 300HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. (7/11/17) — Hopkinsville Parks and Recreation’s popular Movies in the Park series doubles the fun this Friday night at Ruff Park with an entertainment twinbill beginning with live music from the visiting 451st Army Band and concluding with the humorous animated movie “Sing.”

The band concert starts at 7 p.m. with the movie starting around 8:30.

In addition to the concert and movie, Relish The Dog and Heather’s Homemade Ice Cream will be on hand at Ruff Park for food and desert offerings.

“The 451st Band called and offered their talents to our event while training at Fort Campbell and we’re really pleased to bring their talented group to Hopkinsville on Friday night. Their music, combined with the showing of Sing, makes for a tremendous free evening for audiences young and old,” said Tab Brockman, Parks and Recreation Superintendent.

The 451st Army Band is comprised of select musicians from the Upper Midwest. They all share a love of music and pride in serving their country as Citizen Soldiers in the United States Army Reserve. The 451st Army Band is stationed at Fort Snelling, Minnesota, and is part of the 88th Regional Support Command headquartered at Fort McCoy, Wisconsin. The 451st Army Band has proudly performed for American and International dignitaries, and for countless citizens across the country. Some of the band’s more notable performances include the 50th anniversary of the WWII Allied victory in France, the 60th anniversary of the WWII liberation of Italy in Rome, the 100th anniversary of the US Army Reserve in Washington D.C., and filling in for band stationed at the US Military Academy at West Point. The 451st Army Band’s mission is to provide music throughout the spectrum of military operations to instill in our soldiers the will to fight and win, foster the support of our citizens, and promote our national interests at home and abroad.

“Sing” follows the story of Buster Moon, a hustling movie theater impresario who attempts to save his theater with a singing competition. The city of humanoid animals provides a crazy cast of performers as the singing competition becomes bigger than even Buster can imagine.

The next Movies in the Park event will be next Friday, July 18, when “Angry Birds” takes to the big screen at Pardue Lane Dog Park at 8:30.
