MADISONVILLE, Ky. (8/1/17) — Madisonville-North Hopkins has emerged as a challenger to Hopkinsville in Class 4A, District 1.

The Maroons, under the direction of head coach Jay Burgett, compiled a 4-7 record in 2016. Madisonville-North Hopkins lost to then-reigning state champion South Warren in the 2016 Class 4A Playoffs.

Heading into the 2017 season, Madisonville-North Hopkins (4-7) is projected to finish second behind Hopkinsville (10-2) in Class 4A, District 1. Hopkinsville, which features productive junior running back JaTorian Dillard, is the reigning Class 4A, District 1 champion.

Madisonville-North Hopkins is projected to finish ahead of Calloway County (7-4), Logan County (1-9) and Hopkins County Central (4-7) in Class 4A, District 1.

Jay Burgett-coached Madisonville-North Hopkins fared its best in the latter part of the 2016 season, winning its last three regular-season games.

Madisonville-North Hopkins lost quarterback Dalen Gipson to graduation. As a senior, Gipson completed 124-of-245 passes for 1,697 yards and 11 touchdowns for Madisonville-North Hopkins.

Junior Dan Fulton is poised to take over as Madisonville-North Hopkins' starting quarterback.

Leading rusher and receiver Aaron Miller is back for the Maroons. On the ground, Miller rushed 103 times for 601 yards and four touchdowns for Maroons in 2016. Showcasing his versatility, Miller hauled in 55 receptions for 698 yards and five touchdowns for Madisonville-North Hopkins as a young sophomore.

Madisonville-North Hopkins' schedule includes games versus Owensboro, Marshall County, Murray, Union County, Hopkins County Central, Calloway County, Hopkinsville, Logan County, Christian County and Fort Campbell. The Maroons are scheduled to host non-district foe Owensboro for a season opener at 7 p.m. on August 18.
