football helmet ball surfkyBEAVER DAM, KY (8/2/17) – Ohio County will look to make another appearance in the Class 6A Playoffs with an experienced quarterback leading the way. Accomplished signal-caller Heath Simmons is back for his senior season with the Eagles.

Simmons completed 212-of-344 passes for 2,397 yards and 19 touchdowns while throwing 14 interceptions in the 2016 season. Spreading the football around, Simmons completed passes to eight different receivers.

The Eagles ended the 2016 season 2-9 following a loss to national powerhouse Trinity (Louisville) in the opening round of the Class 6A State Playoffs.

Ohio County competes in Class 6A, District 1, along with Muhlenberg County (7-4), Daviess County (6-5), Henderson County (3-8) and frontrunner McCracken County (7-4).

In addition Simmons, Ohio County returns leading rusher Caden Brown. Now a junior, Brown rushed 65 times for a team-high 379 yards and five touchdowns during his sophomore season.
A new go-to receiver will have to emerge for the Eagles. Ohio County lost top receiver Chris Thompson to graduation. Thompson hauled in 53 receptions for 614 yards and four touchdowns during his senior season in 2016.

Ohio County will look to shore up its defense. Opponents outscored the Eagles 470-200 during the 2016 season.

Ohio County's 2017 schedule is made up of games versus McLean County, Hopkins County Central, Hancock County, Grayson County, Breckinridge County, Henderson County, McCracken County, Muhlenberg County, Daviess County and Butler County.

The Eagles are preparing to host McLean County in a season opener on Aug. 18. Kickoff for the Ohio County-McLean County football game is set for 7 p.m.
