football closup surfkyMADISONVILLE, Ky. (8/2/17) — Hopkins County Central will look to ride momentum from the 2016 season into the 2017 gridiron campaign. The Storm posted their best record since 2009 last season, compiling a 4-7 mark.

Now, Hopkins County Central will look to post a winning season for the first time in nine years minus 14 seniors from the 2016 team.

Eventual state runner-up Franklin-Simpson ended Hopkins County Central's postseason run in 2016, defeating the Storm 61-6 in the Class 4A State Playoffs.

Several players will be expected to step up and contribute early for the Storm.

Versatile senior Gage Weatherwax and junior Cyrus Kington are the top players back for Hopkins County Central. Weatherwax and Kington rushed for two touchdowns apiece for the Storm last fall.

During the 2016 season, Hopkins County Central claimed wins over Webster County, Crittenden County, Breckinridge County, and Logan County. The Storm suffered losses to Muhlenberg County, McLean County, Calloway County, Madisonville-North Hopkins, Hopkinsville and Union County during the 2016 regular-season.

Hopkins County Central (4-7) competes in Class 4A, District 1, which also features Logan County (1-9), Calloway County (7-4), Madisonville-North Hopkins (4-7) and preseason favorite Hopkinsville (10-2).

The Storm are set to face Webster County, Ohio County, Muhlenberg County, Todd County Central, Madisonville-North Hopkins, Logan County, Calloway County, Trigg County, Hopkinsville and Crittenden County during the upcoming upcoming. Hopkins County Central will host Webster County at 7 p.m. on Aug. 18.
