OWENSBORO, Ky. (8/20/13) – Friday night saw the kick-off to high school football sports with a scrimmage game between the Owensboro Catholic Aces and the Henderson Colonels. Since it was only a scrimmage the score was never displayed on the scoreboard, just the amount of time remaining in the game.
The Aces did have three scoring drives and seemed to control the tempo all night. The first touchdown came around 9:45 in the second quarter. It was a one-yard run set up by a long pass from Houston Hartz to Jason Toth of Owensboro Catholic.
Henderson appeared to have difficulties sustaining a drive all night and seemed to be their own worst enemies at times, with several dropped passes throughout the night. With only seconds to play in the first half Henderson was in the Red Zone and came up empty after the Aces made a goal-line stand.
The Aces second score came on defense when a player picked up a bad snap from the Henderson offense.
Catholic’s last Touchdown came late in the game when their back-up quarterback rolled out and connected for a 62-yard pass to Toth.
One of the biggest plays of the game for Owensboro Catholic came as their starting Senior Quarterback Houston Hartz was sacked on a play. The tackle resulted in him leaving the game with possibly a mild concussion.
Friday August 23rd the Owensboro Catholic Aces start their season against the Apollo Eagles.
