election 300MUHLENBERG COUNTY, Ky. (1/10/14) — The deadline for candidates to file for the upcoming election with the Muhlenberg County Clerk's office is 4 p.m. on Jan.28.

Those, who have filed so far, include current Judge-Executive Rick Newman, D-Greenville. Opposing Newman in the May primary will be Terrill Snodgrass, D-Greenville.

Gaylan Spurlin, D-Greenville, has filed to retain his current position as Muhlenberg County Clerk

Darris L. Russell, D-Greenville, has filed to run again for his present position as County Attorney.

Sheriff Curtis McGehee, D-Greenville, is so far the only candidate who has filed for the position of sheriff.

Mark Curry, D-Greenville, has filed for Muhlenberg County Jailer.

Tony Lynn Armour, D-Central City, will run again for his current position as Muhlenberg County Coroner.

Bill Alward, D-South Carrollton, has filed to retain his position as PVA.

The only Democratic candidate, to file so far, for District 1 Constable, is Rondal Lee Hambrick of Central City.

Cozy L. Chappell, D-Drakesboro, has filed to run for Magistrate-District 1.

Two candidates have filed thus far for the position of Magistrate-District 2. They include Terry Darrin Benton, R-Drakesboro, and Dwight Jordan, D-Beechmont.

Phil Harvell, D-Greenville, has filed for the position of District 3 Constable.

Tommy Watkins, D-Greenville, has filed for the position of Magistrate-District 3.

It's a three-way race for Magistrate in District 5 between Joe Glen Mitchell, D-Central City, Keith Dukes, D-South Carrollton, and Kevin Gunn, D-Central City.

Democrat Darrin S. Albro of Greenville has filed to run for Constable-District 4.

Incumbent Daniel Bowels, D-Greenville, will face Brett Wayne, D-Greenville in the District 4 Magistrate race.

Tim Franklin, D-Bremen, and Jim "J.J." Johnson, D-Central City, are both running in the Democratic primary for the position of Constable-District 5.

Mayor Barry Shaver of Central City, has also filed for re-election.

Jack Reno, of Central City, has filed for the Central City Council.

Bobby G. Creager will run for Mayor of Powderly.
