Muhlenberg Teens to Celebrate First Year of Crave

CENTRAL CITY, Ky. (6/30/14) — If you have heard about Crave the Movement, you probably will soon.

This regular scheduled event held for the young people of Muhlenberg County, began as a prayer, and is now growing to Louisville, Chicago and beyond.

This event, that is being held at Living Word Church in Central City, will celebrate its first anniversary July 11.

Victoria Rae Rich told SurfKY News that the event began when she, along with her brother Josh, and Whitney Cruver searched for an answer to the question of what young people can do that's fun, safe and keeps them in a positive, caring environment.

"When I came home from Bible college in Chicago, I was helping my dad with his church activities, and I realized a lot of my friends were not doing very well, as far as lifestyle choices," Rich said. "I came back to Muhlenberg County to do something positive. My brother, Josh, and I, along with Whitney, were asking ourselves 'What can we do to reach people our age and younger who are going down the wrong road?' We really wanted to stop this cycle."

"I really don't know how the idea came to us, but I know it was God that put the idea in our hearts," Rich said. "We needed to reach people right where they were in their life. Crave the Movement, was just a name that came to us while we were discussing what to call the event. It has grown from there. Before the first Crave, we thought it would be good if we had two hundred students. Then we opened the doors and we had over four hundred people. The cool thing about Crave is we have all types of young people. Everyone is loved, everyone is the same. We present the message of Jesus, calling it the party with a purpose. We have an alter call and over fifteen hundred have accepted Christ this year. We have hundreds of stories of young people turning away from negative lifestyles and then spreading the word to others."

Rich said that while the Muhlenberg Crave team was concentrating on the enormous amount of details to make Crave a success, they suddenly were getting calls from throughout the US. From Chicago, Louisville, and numerous other cities wanting to start their own local Craves.

"We have been delighted with the overflow of response to the event," Rich said. "We will be having our first Crave Chicago on August 2. We are also having people reach out to us from Louisville, Nashville and Los Angeles, along with other cities across the nation. We believe in a cutting edge way of reaching people, that's drug free and free of promiscuity. We feel that if one is changed, he or she will go and change someone else. We would like to see in the future a Crave drug rehab center, music lessons for those who cannot afford them, and other needs."

Rich said that one of the next steps as year two begins for Crave is to find a new venue. Currently it is held at the Living Word Church on the 189 Bypass in Central City.

"We have just grown so fast we have outgrown this venue," Rich said. "We are busy trying to find someplace bigger to handle the ever growing number of young people coming to each event. Once we have done that, I think we will have thousands coming to Crave Central.
