Governor Beshear Orders Flags to Half-staff in Honor of Washington Navy Yard Victims

flags 300FRANKFORT, Ky. (9/17/13) – Gov. Steve Beshear has directed that flags at all state office buildings be lowered to half-staff until sundown on Sept. 20, 2013 in honor of the victims of yesterday’s Washington Navy Yard shooting tragedy.

This order follows a proclamation from President Barack Obama ordering flags to be flown at half-staff at the White House and other federal buildings to honor the victims.

“The Washington Navy Yard shooting was a senseless, unwarranted and sordid act of violence,” said Gov. Beshear. “Kentuckians and all Americans stand with the Washington community as we grieve and pray for the victims, their friends and families.”

Gov. Beshear encourages individuals, businesses, organizations and government agencies to join in this tribute.

Flag status information is available at http://governor.ky.gov/Pages/flagstatus.aspx.
