basic football3 300OWENSBORO, Ky. (9/2/13) – At their final home game of the month, the Apollo Eagles fought hard but couldn’t catch up with the momentum of Owensboro’s Red Devils Friday night.

The Eagles pulled off back-to-back touchdowns in the second half and prevented the Red Devils from scoring further, but were down 47-0 going into that half.

The Red Devils were already up 34-0 when OHS ran an 18-yard touchdown with eight and a half minutes to go in the second quarter. That was followed by an interception, allowing the Red Devils to score a second time after OHS declined a holding penalty call against Apollo.

Going into the third quarter, Eagles offense ran the ball to fourth and one and played it, netting them a first down. John Robbins ran the ball nine yards and the team then took a second first down with 5:40 on the clock. A pass interference call landed them on the 13 yard line with a first down play that put the team on the board.

The final score was Red Devils 47, Eagles 6.

The outcome sets up the Red Devils and Owensboro Catholic’s Aces for the City-County Championship game this Friday night at Owensboro High School. Apollo and Daviess County will face off at Daviess County High School. Both games start at 7 p.m.
