OWENSBORO, Ky. (8/19/14) — The Daviess County boys' soccer team won its season-opener Monday, toppling visiting Franklin-Simpson 8-1.
Matt Stauffer and Isaac Amaya led the Panthers with two goals apiece.
In all, six different Daviess County players found the net, Austin Vanover, Nolan Mattingly, Ryan Freer and Hunter Baird each had one goal for Daviess County in the convincing victory. Daviess County used a diverse offensive attack to get past Franklin-Simpson in the season-opener. Vanover, Mattingly and Elliott Wells delivered one assist apiece for the Panthers.
Defensively, Daviess County goalkeeper Tyler Croft limited Franklin-Simpson top only one goal. The Daviess County and Franklin-Simpson boys' soccer teams are not scheduled to meet again this season.
Daviess County's 2014 schedule includes additional games versus Owensboro Catholic, Bowling Green, Owensboro, Warren Central, Apollo, Western Hills, East Jessamine, Ballard, Kentucky Country Day, Ohio County, Christian County, Madisonville-North Hopkins, Greenwood, Henderson County, Central Hardin and South Warren.
Doug Sandifer-coached Daviess County is slated to visit Owensboro Catholic Thursday.The Daviess County-Owensboro Catholic boys' soccer game is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
