Ramis had been suffering from a rare disease called Autoimmune Inflammatory Vasculitis, which causes blood vessels to swell.

Ramis’ health struggles started back in May of 2010 with an infection that led to complications related to AIV.

He was best known as Dr. Egon Spegler in the 1984 smash hit “Ghostbusters,” which was ranked as one of the highest-grossing comedies of all-time and is now celebrating its 30th anniversary.

He leaves behind a daunting body of work, with writing credits on comedies such as “National Lampoon’s Animal House” and “Stripes.”

He was also known for directing hit movies such as “Caddyshack” and “Groundhog Day.”

Ramis’ comedies were often wild, trivial and tilting toward rebellion, but clever and revolutionary. He had a huge influence on other iconic actor-writer-directors.

Ramis leaves behind his wife and three children.
