Whitfield Congratulates Job Corps on Golden Anniversary

job corps 300WASHINGTON (8/15/14) — U.S. Rep. Ed Whitfield (KY-01), Chairman of the House Subcommittee on Energy and Power, is pleased to congratulate the Job Corps Program for 50 years of service to millions of at-risk youth whose lives have been forever changed by the program and to give a special recognition to the Earle C. Clements and Muhlenberg Job Corps Centers located in Kentucky’s 1st Congressional District.

This week Job Corps Centers around the country began the kick-off of their Golden Anniversary celebration.

The Earle C. Clement Job Corps Center in Morganfield and Muhlenberg Job Corps Center in Muhlenberg both provide a vital service to Kentucky’s 1st Congressional District by serving hundreds of disadvantaged youth between 16 and 24 years of age. Through Job Corps, these students receive an education and career training skills to help them obtain a job and become productive members of the community.

Earlier this year, Whitfield was awarded honors and recognized by the National Job Corps Association on Capitol Hill. As a founding member of the Congressional Job Corps Caucus, Whitfield has continually fought to preserve the Job Corps Program and ensure that it is managed properly by the U.S. Department of Labor in a way that best meets the needs of students. He also worked closely with his Congressional colleagues to ensure that Job Corps receives adequate funding in order to serve as many youth as possible. As a result, tens of thousands of formerly disconnected youth are safe, learning and starting careers in our nation’s fastest growing occupations.

“I call upon our citizens to join me in saluting the Muhlenberg and Earle C. Clement Corps Centers and the Job Corps Program for 50 years of success in serving millions of disadvantaged youth by providing academic, employment and social skills training to empower young people,” said Whitfield. “I ask everyone to support the official designation of the week of Aug. 18-22 as ‘Celebrate Job Corps 50 Week.’ I am pleased to see the continued work of these groups, and proud to be involved in helping with such a worthy cause.”
