Outdoors With Big Country – 'Take a Kid Fishing'

fishing muhlMUHLENBERG COUNTY, Ky. (2/15/14) – The Muhlenberg County "Take a Kid Fishing" Committee had their First Monthly meeting last week at the Conservation District Office in Greenville.

Several Committee members attended the very first of 2014 Monthly Meeting to discuss plans for this year's Big Event which will take place at Luzerne Lake June 14,2014.

Weather permitting.

Members discussed business from the great turnout from last year's event and discussed some improvements and plans to start activate their game plan for this year's event. With further meetings scheduled for each month as we get all the arrangements together.

There's been such good feedback from last year's fishing event despite last year's struggles with all the heavy rains we experienced.

If weather is good this year, we hope to have a larger crowd this summer over last year's attendance of just over 300 last year.

There have been some improvements made at the lake area since our last event: a nice boat ramp, street lights, and gravel has been installed.

Look for more improvements yet to come to the lake area!

As of last year we decided to post the advertisements of this summer's "Take a Kid Fishing" event as we get close to this great event for all community kids.

Several volunteers make this event happen and several community business's help out.

But we need your support as a parent, grandparent, uncle or aunt, or if you're just a friend, to spread the word and invite these kids out to enjoy a day of fishing.

Kids make this great event a success!

It's all about getting the youth more in the outdoors and introduce someone to fishing.

Randy Adams aka "Big Country" and several of his friends started this kids fishing event some three years ago and promoted the Day to Take a Kid Fishing.

Muhlenberg County Judge Ex. Rick Newman and Mayor Ed DeArmond have been working hard to improve our local community and this event is one positive step towards young kids having a mentor to show and teach them how to go fishing and be in the outdoors.

We will have more news to be reported each month. All rules and regulations and registration will be up on the news web sites and in local newspapers.

Members who attended this month's meeting were Charles Turner, Ben Van Hooser, Tommy Barton, Randy Adams, Emily Knight, and Vickie and Wallace Slinker. Other committee members were not present due to other responsibilities.

Remember to mark your calendars and get ready for another successful day of "Take a Kid Fishing" in June!!!!

It will be a day to experience a kid fishing and smiling!
