Kentucky State Police Warn Drivers Regarding Labor Day Weekend

ksp checkpoint 300FRANKFORT, Ky. (8/28/13) – The Kentucky State Police (KSP) has requested that local citizens be warned that the upcoming holiday weekend is not a good time to take the risk of drinking and driving.

According to KSP officials, the focus for Troopers during the entire weekend is to keep a close eye out for drunk drivers.

Troopers have been ordered to increase enforcement, do saturation patrols and safety checkpoints on a statewide level. Though the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign is a common concept for weekend holidays, the numbers of alcohol-related accidents on Labor Day weekend for 2012 have caused local officials to be even more watchful this year.

Between the dates of August 31 and September 3 in 2012, the state of Kentucky saw over 1500 crashes, almost 500 injuries and 9 fatalities.

The Labor Day holiday should be celebrated, but not in a way that could cost you or someone else their lives.

Think before you drink. If you must drink this weekend, make sure you have a sober designated driver ready to take you home.

Driver Sober or Get Pulled Over!
