Glema Center Sets Dates for Community Theatre Auditions

AUDITIONS RAPHOPKINS COUNTY, KY. (12/9/13)   Auditions for the poignant comedy “I’m Not Rappaport” by Herb Gardner will be held on December 15 & 16, 2013 at the Glema Mahr Center for the Arts on the campus of Madisonville Community College in Madisonville, Kentucky.

“I’m Not Rappaport” will require a cast of 5 men, aged 16 and up, and 2 women, aged early 20’s and 40 to 50’s. Auditions will be held on stage at the Glema Center on Sunday, December 15, 2013 at 2 p.m. and on Monday, December 16, 2013 at 6:30 p.m. Those auditioning will read from the script and participate in improvisational exercises. Please dress comfortably.

I'm Not Rappaport! takes place under a bridge in Central Park, where two octogenarians - one white, one black - meet regularly, determined to fight off all attempts to put them out to pasture. Nat is a cantankerous radical whose daughter is urging him into the old folk's home. Midge, an apartment superintendent spends his days in the park hiding in the past and from his disgruntled tenants.

Both Nat and Midge are in their 80’s but can be portrayed by men of a younger age. (The most recent Broadway Revival featured Judd Hirsch and Ben Vereen.) Other roles include Nat’s daughter, a young art student, a middle-aged businessman, a teenaged hoodlum, and “the cowboy”.

This production will be directed by Sean Mooningham. The performances are February 20-22, 2014 at the Glema Center with regularly scheduled rehearsals beginning January 6. Scripts may be checked out through the Glema Center office prior to auditions. Also, there will be openings for technical volunteers. Those interested in either acting or in backstage/technical work are encouraged to attend auditions.

The Glema Mahr Center for the Arts is located on the campus of Madisonville Community College, 2000 College Drive, Madisonville, KY, 42431. For more information, please call 270-824-8650.
