Our Road to the Future: I-69

lingo corumn 300MADISONVILLE, Ky. (10/3/13) – There will be an I-69 Development Conference on Tuesday, October 15 from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. at the Ballard Convention Center located on 605 East Arch Street in Madisonville, Ky.

The Rogers Group Inc. out of Greenville, Kentucky will be presenting up-to-date information on local, state and federal construction projects. They will also be planning considerations, governmental perspectives, and economic development strategies associated with the advance of the Interstate 69 corridor through western Kentucky.

“This road is going to present the most significant economic opportunity for this part of the state we will see in our lifetimes,” said Lee Lingo, Co-Chair, I-69 Development Conference Planning Committee. “When trucking, shipping and delivery companies are starting to plot their routes, they look at the shortest distance. As I-69 comes into completion in stages, and as ours shows up as the shortest route… the amount of traffic you see out there will quadruple.”

Success stories from the communities that are already being benefited from the highway will be presented, which will help the surrounding counties to begin to formulate strategies to maximize the benefits that will be expected of I-69.

“The purpose of this conference is to look at what we need to do to be prepared,” said Lingo. “If you look where western Kentucky is located, we are pretty much equal distance from Canada and Mexico. We also have river and rails. We are ideally suited for a massive economic boom over the next 50 years.”

The conference will feature speaker from the Kentucky Transportation and Economic Development cabinets, contractors, high ranking state and federal officials and guest panelists from other I-69 states. The keynote speaker will be Governor Steve Beshear.

“It’s not just a road conference, it is an economic development conference, tourism conference, and conference about opportunities about the future,” said William Corum, Co-Chair, I-69 Development Conference Planning Committee.

Those of you who are interested in attending this conference must prepay for tickets and are $20.00 per person. RSVP is required and payments will not be accepted at the door.
