PADUCAH, Ky. (6/26/13) – At approximately 3:40 PM on Tuesday, June 25, the McCracken County Sheriff’s Department responded to a two-vehicle accident with injuries on Old HWY 60 at the intersection of Ashland Avenue, in West Paducah. The initial call stated that there was a person trapped in one of the vehicles.
The investigation showed that a 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer, operated by Sharon K. Gibson, 65, of Kevil was westbound on Old HWY 60 when she was approaching the intersection of Ashland Avenue. A 1993 Honda Accord driven by John C. Barnett, 43, of Water Valley, KY was making a left turn onto Old HWY 60 from Ashland Avenue when the collision occurred. Mrs. Gibson’s vehicle collided with the driver side of Mr. Barnett’s vehicle, causing him to become trapped inside. Barnett was extricated by mechanical means and transported to an area hospital for multiple injuries. Mrs. Gibson was also transported to an area hospital as a safety precaution for possible injuries, but appeared to be uninjured.
During the course of the Sheriff’s Departments investigation, it was found that the Old HWY 60 stop sign had been removed from the intersection. This appeared to be a contributing factor in the collision.
The Sheriff’s Department was assisted at the scene by Mercy Regional Ambulance, West McCracken Fire Department, and Randy’s Body Shop to help clear the collision.
The traffic in the area was slowed down for approximately one hour.
