assault arrest 300PADUCAH, Ky. (6/26/13) – On Tuesday, June 25th, at approximately 4:10 PM, Deputies with the McCracken County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to an assault at 2211, Sunset Drive.

Upon arrival, Deputies located James Edward Stroud, 50, of Paducah, KY standing at a neighbor’s residence next door. Mr. Stroud had a moderate laceration to the top of his head along with moderate swelling. Mr. Stroud stated that he got into a physical altercation with “Danny Cox” at the 2211, Sunset Drive residence. Mr. Stroud told Deputies that he and Mr. Cox had a verbal argument about rent money and what Mr. Stroud was going to do to pay him back. Mr. Stroud was attempting to load up some of his personal items outside of the residence when Mr. Cox struck him from behind with what Stroud described as a wooden “police style” baton.

Mr. Stroud told Deputies that he turned around and faced Cox but was barely able to see him due to the injury. Stroud told Deputies that he told Cox to put the baton down, but Cox continued to swing at him, brushing him with the baton and striking him once more in the left shoulder. Stroud was able to flee from the residence to his neighbor’s residence to have Law Enforcement called.

Deputies learned that Mr. Cox may have barricaded himself inside his residence and that he also had an unrelated warrant for Wanton Endangerment 2nd degree. Deputies gained access to the residence, but were unable to locate Cox due to him fleeing the scene.

A short time later in the evening, deputies located Cox at his mother’s residence on the same property as his residence. Cox was taken into custody for the unrelated warrant and Assault 2nd degree.

Cox denied knowing anything about the incident and stated he did not wish to speak to Deputies in an interview attempt. Cox was charged and lodged into McCracken County Jail.
