Outdoors with Big Country – 25th Annual Deer Classic

deer classic 300KENTUCKY (8/9/13) – It’s that time of year once again to start the early Fall season off right, by attending the 25th Annual Kentucky Deer Classic on Saturday, August 24, 2013.

Located on the 189 Bypass just up the road from Uncle Lee’s Sporting Goods at the Muhlenberg County Ag and Convention Center, this statewide attended event is sponsored by the Greater Muhlenberg County Chamber of Commerce.

Each year hunters and outdoor enthusiasts come from all surrounding regions and states to get an early jump on the action of over 100 plus exhibit booths. The best thing about it is that this is a family oriented event. Bring the whole family!

There will be games and exhibits for kids, such as a Bandit Crossbow Shoot, a BB Gun Shoot, and Paintball Shoot. Everyone attending always loves checking out the local trophy bucks on the Wall of Fame Big Buck Contest, which takes place outside at the paradise Park.
dc1
This year, the Deer Classis is proud to have the classic TV show host from Knight and Hale Game Calls, Harold Knight. Knight is a local legend from Cadiz, KY.

Another seminar speaker on hand will be Roger Sigler. Sigler trains Labrador Retriever dogs to go hunt and retrieve antler sheds in the wild.

The Deer Classic’s monster buck featured hunter is local avid archery enthusiast Thad Cartwright, of Muhlenberg County. That has a new world record velvet non-typical buck which scored the Buckmasters BRT Record at 273 inches, measured by BTR official Steve Lucas of Alabama.

dc2Another popular Kentucky group that will be at the Classic is Kentucky Redneck Outdoors (KRO). This is a fairly new group of local hunters and anglers that take the outdoors to the extreme. Also known as, “those crazy rednecks,” this group has quickly developed a huge following throughout the state. The KRO staff, Wildcat Scott, Dr. Doug and Jess Graham will sharing a booth with SurfKY News and will be selling chances to win some great outdoor-oriented items, with half the proceeds going to help the family of Tyler Foster, a local youth fighting his way through cancer.

Lastly, but by far not the least, the Want Not Waste Not Deer Donation folks will also have a booth at the event.

Make this even high on your list of priorities. Doors open at 8:00 AM and continue until 4:00 PM. You can learn more about the Ky Deer Classic by logging online to www.kydeerclassic.org or www.unclelees.com.

dc3With Kentucky's Archery Season opening up on September 7, this is a great show to get you started out right! As always hunt ethically, safe and responsibly and have a good time while Afield! Introduce someone to the sport of hunting this year! Make it a tradition!

Until next week... I hope everyone has a safe weekend, and don't forget to tune in on Tuesday morning, August 13th at 9:30 am on Madisonville’s 97.7 FM radio show to listen to Backwoods with Rick! I'll be his guest on Tuesday morning and we'll be talking about the KY Deer Classic and the Great Outdoors!!!
