Wildcats Prepare for Schooner Fall Classic

uk wildcats5 300LEXINGTON, Ky. (10/4/13) – The 22nd-ranked University of Kentucky women’s golf team returns to action this weekend, Oct. 5-7, at the Schooner Fall Classic in Norman, Okla., at the Belmar Golf Club.

The Wildcats are coming off a 10th place finish at the Mason Rudolph Championship after winning their season-opening tournament, the “MO”Morial Invitational. At the Mason Rudolph Championship, senior Liz Breed was UK’s top finisher in a tie for 13th at two-over par.

UK will use the lineup of Breed, sophomores Cylia Damerau and Sarah Harris and freshmen Haley Mills and Alessandra Walker. “We couldn’t be more excited to play in the Schooner Fall Classic this weekend,” said Kentucky head coach Golda Johansson Borst. “I think this tournament will be very special for our team as the message for the event is to give back to the community. The field is very competitive, which will challenge us, but we learned a great deal from our last tournament, and we will use that experience to be better prepared for this weekend.”

Eighteen holes will be played on Saturday through Monday, with fixed tee times on hole No. 1 and No. 10 starting at 9:30 a.m. ET each day. The Belmar Golf Club will feature a par-70 (36-34), 6,082-yard setup.

The three-day tournament will feature 15 teams, including five programs ranked in the GolfWorld/WGCA Coaches Poll. Joining the No. 22 Wildcats are No. 3 Oklahoma, No. 6 Oklahoma State, No. 9 Arizona State, No. 17 Georgia, Denver, Florida State, Kent State, LSU, Pepperdine, SMU, TCU, Texas A&M, Texas State and Texas Tech.

All proceeds from the Schooner Fall Classic will go directly to fund operational costs of OK Kids Korral.

OK Kids Korral is an Oklahoma 501(c)(3) tax exempt organization and a project of the Toby Keith Foundation. OK Kids Korral is located at the OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City and will serve as a cost free home away from home for children battling cancer.
