IMG 20140811 155741OWENSBORO, Ky. (8/11/2014) – Following a roughly 45-minute “town hall” meeting in the auditorium of Owensboro Health, U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell was honored by a group of children suffering from diabetes.

The group, representing the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, thanked the senator for his support of diabetes research through the Special Diabetes Program.

During the town hall discussion, McConnell told the audience not to expect the gridlock in Washington D.C. to end until after the November elections, and only if the voters elect candidates that would place the U.S. House and Senate under Republican control.

“We could, at least, challenge the bureaucracy,” he said. “I don’t want that to sound overly hostile.”

McConnell said he believes President Obama can lead a federal government that works together if he is willing.

“My first choice is not to do nothing for two years,” he said. “I’d like to see if we can (turn) Obama into a (former President Bill) Clinton or a (former President Ronald) Reagan.”

The subject of the Affordable Care Act came up as well. McConnell said that’s another area where people shouldn’t get their hopes up. He believes the ACA should be repealed or at the very least, defunded by the House and Senate.

“I don’t think you’re likely to see good times any time soon because of what we did with Obamacare,” McConnell said.

McConnell is in a heated race for re-election against Democratic challenger Alison Lundergan Grimes.
