God’s Great Outdoor Adventures - May Offers Excellent Fishing

boys fishingKENTUCKY (5/15/13) – Hello again folks! I hope you are having a blessed day. Turkey season has come and gone, and it is time to get serious about fishing.
 
Some of you have already been fishing quite a bit. I normally go a few times before turkey season. After turkey season, I put my fishing game face on and hit the water.
 
Late in the month of May is an excellent time to do some serious bluegill fishing. The key to bluegill fishing is to find a bed. Once you have located the bed, you can catch them one right after another. The fish guard their beds and anything that comes near it, they eat. The larger the bed area, the better. Sometimes you have to hunt around to find the right bed that suits you because some beds are made up with the use of smaller fish and other beds have larger size pan fish.
 
Another species of fish that folks start to go after during the month of May is the catfish. They begin to move up into the shallows, as well as beginning to spawn. The best areas to fish for catfish are areas with rocky bottoms or areas with lots of logs. Most folks around here enjoy going down to Barkley and Kentucky Lakes to catch the channel cats. These fish are larger than the bluegill and have fewer bones, and are delicious to eat. With fewer bones, it is a great fish to introduce to a child or a person who has never eaten fresh caught fish.

I will be checking my schedule and heading to the lake with my family soon. Fishing is a wonderful family activity that everyone, from the smallest to the largest, can enjoy.
