UK Soccer Travels to Marshall

UK Soccer 300LEXINGTON, Ky. (10/29/13) - The Kentucky men’s soccer team will return to road action, traveling to face Marshall on Wednesday in Huntington, W.Va., with kickoff at Hoops Family Field at Veterans Memorial Soccer Complex slated for 7 p.m. ET.

Kentucky (4-8-2, 1-3-2 Conference USA) will travel to Marshall for its next-to-last road game of the 2013 regular season. The Wildcats are coming off a conference loss to Florida International on Saturday night at the UK Soccer Complex, with UK getting a goal from Isak Krogstad in a 4-1 loss.

The Wildcats have netted 14 goals in 14 games, surrendering 19 tallies with a 1.31 goals-against average. UK has a 220-136 advantage in shots and a 87-62 advantage in corner kicks in 2013, converting on 2-of-3 penalty kick attempts.

A native of Tomsoe, Norway, Krogstad leads UK in scoring with four goals and two assists. Senior Brad Doliner has four goals and one assist, with sophomore Jacob Scearce and freshman Sam Miller each sporting a goal and two assists. Junior Justin Laird leads the team with four assists, with freshmen Napo Matsoso, Kaelon Fox and Charlie Reymann each owning a goal and an assist.

In goal, Callum Irving has started 10 games with a 1.23 goals-against average, with four shutouts and 27 saves. Senior Jack Van Arsdale has four starts with a 1.50 goals-against average.

Marshall (2-8-6, 0-3-3 C-USA) is coming off a 1-1 draw with Tulsa on Saturday, getting a goal from Zach Hunter in the tie. Marshall has not won since a Sept. 16 game with VMU, also posting a 1-0 win over IPFW on Sept. 15. The Thundering Herd has ties with FAU, South Carolina, Tulsa, Bowling Green, Northern Kentucky and Appalachian State.

The Thundering Herd has scored 12 goals in 16 games, allowing 28 tallies, with opponents owning a 207-179 advantage in shots and Marshall owning an 88-86 mark in corners.

Hunter leads Marshall in scoring with three goals, with Jack Hopkins also owning three goals. Daniel Jodah has a team-high four assists, with Jahvon Allison sporting two goals and an assist. In goal, Danny Sellti has nine starts and a 1.50 goals-against average, with Tyler Atwell starting six games with a 1.93 goals-against average.

Kentucky leads the all-time series with Marshall, 15-7-3, owning a 5-2-2 mark in games played in Huntington. The Wildcats have not lost in Marshall since a 2000, 4-0 setback.

In the 2012 meeting, UK posted a 1-0 win at Marshall, with the game played at the nearby Hurricane High School, in Hurricane, W.Va., due to construction to the Marshall soccer facility. The win was the second straight for UK, which came against a Marshall team that ranked No. 2 in the NCAA in defense, allowing just four goals in 12 games. UK made a lineup switch and moved defender Dylan Asher to forward for his first career start as an attacker, with Asher netting his first career goal. Van Arsdale notched a shutout with five saves in goal.
