military zimmermanFRANKFORT, Ky. (7/26/13) – Gov. Steve Beshear has directed that flags at all state office buildings be lowered to half-staff on Saturday, July 27, 2013 in honor of a Fort Campbell soldier who died while supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.
 
According to the Department of Defense, Staff Sgt. Sonny C. Zimmerman, 25, of Waynesfield, Ohio, died July 16, in Mushaka, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when his vehicle was attacked by a rocket-propelled grenade. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 506th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, Fort Campbell, Ky.
 
Funeral services for Staff Sgt. Zimmerman will be held on July 27 at 11 a.m. Eastern time at Waynesfield Goshen High School in Waynesfield, Ohio. Interment will follow at noon Eastern Time at Walnut Hill Cemetery in New Hampshire, Ohio. Gov. Beshear encourages individuals, businesses, organizations and government agencies to join in this tribute.
