Week-8-Madisonville-Mayfiel

MADISONVILLE, Ky. (8/7/14) — During the week of July 28 through Aug. 1, a total of 64 boys and girls from the Kentucky State Police Madisonville and Mayfield Post Districts attended the Kentucky State Police Trooper Island Camp.

Before leaving for the island, the campers were treated to a cookout at the Madisonville Post courtesy of Richard and LaNell Gordon of Madisonville and Woodmen of the World Chapter 92, Princeton.

During their week on the island, the campers participated in many outdoor activities such as archery, canoeing, fishing, nature and swimming.

Established in 1965, Trooper Island is a free summer camp for underprivileged boys and girls, ages 10-12. Operated by the KSP, the camp is located on Dale Hollow Lake in Clinton County. Each year, the camp hosts approximately 700 children from across the state. Campers learn about citizenship, personal hygiene and leadership. Trooper Island Camp provides fresh air, good food, recreation, guidance and structured esteem-building activities; all designed to build good citizenship and positive relationships with law enforcement officers.

Trooper Island is a non-profit organization that is financed entirely by donations, no public funds are used. Contributions are tax-deductible.

If you would like to make a donation to Trooper Island, you may contact your local Kentucky State Police Post.

Each year, the Kentucky State Police conducts a raffle with proceeds going to Trooper Island. Currently, the KSP is raffling a 2014 GMC Sierra 1500 SLE pickup truck (Charitable Gaming # ORG0000633). The drawing will be held Sunday, Aug. 24, 2014 at the Kentucky State Fair in Louisville.

You do not have to be present to win.
