Goodness Snakes Alive! 6' Rattler Surprises Taxidermist

snakeCHRISTIAN COUNTY, Ky. (8/19/14) — A northern Christian County taxidermist got a bit rattled when opening up an old, wooden cabinet door Monday, Aug. 18.

A six-foot-long rattlesnake was waiting to greet him.

Scott Kelly of G&K Taxidermy works with his father mounting deer, turkey, waterfowl, bobcats, coyotes and fish. But dealing with a poisonous snake, especially a live one, was not in the work day plans while he was cleaning out an old barn.

The barn, near the taxidermist shop on Kentucky 189 just across the Pond River Bridge out of Muhlenberg County, was due for a clean-up and Kelly was concentrating on his chores as usual Monday. When he opened up the door to an old, wooden cabinet, the typical day became more exciting.

A quick-thinking Kelly used his 9mm Glock to kill the snake, and says that he and some friends plan on cooking and eating the meat.
