Drakesboro Man Fatally Shot After Pulling Weapon on Sheriff

breakingnews surfky 300MUHLENBERG COUNTY, KY (02/28/12) - The Kentucky State Police is currently investigating a shooting that involved the Muhlenberg County Sheriff’s Department, on Monday, Feb. 27, at approximately 8:22 p.m.

According to KSP reports, Muhlenberg County Sheriff Curtis McGehee and deputies, Terry Vick and Troy Gibson, responded a call from Muhlenberg County Central Dispatch, in reference to a domestic dispute.  

After arriving on the scene, at 308 Warford Street in Drakesboro, officers made contact with 40-year-old Hargis A. Gibson.   

Mr. Gibson produced a handgun and fired one round into the ceiling while officers spoke to him. At that point, Mr. Gibson pointed the handgun at Sheriff McGehee. The officers fired their service weapons at Mr. Gibson fatally wounding him.

Sheriff McGehee, Deputy Gibson, and Deputy Vick were not harmed in the confrontation. According to officials, both deputies have been placed on paid, administrative leave.

KSP Detective Lloyd Ray will continue to investigate the incident. The Muhlenberg County Sheriff’s Department, Greenville Police Department, Central City Police Department, Muhlenberg County EMS, and the Muhlenberg County Coroner’s Office assisted at the scene.
