ksp news 300HENDERSON, Ky. (7/28/17) — Kentucky State Police Post 16 troopers and Commercial Vehicle Enforcement officers were among 79 recognized at an awards ceremony held recently in Lexington alongside Justice Secretary John Tilley and Commissioner Richard Sanders.

Post 16 Troopers Eric M. Browning and Adam L. Wright received the 2016 Lifesaving Medals during the July 21 ceremony.

According to a KSP news release, Browning and Wright “performed life-saving acts under extraordinary circumstances.”

Trooper Blake E. Owens was named Trooper of the Year in the Post 16 Division along with Detective Matthew L. Wise as the division’s Detective of the Year.

The 2016 Citation of Meritorious Service was presented to Sgt. Dean A. Patterson with from Drug Enforcement/Special Investigations West.

Detective Scott R. Hammond from DE/SI West was selected as a recipient of Detective of the Year. Detective Craig A. Miller was also recognized as Detective of the Year for his work in electronic crimes.

Seven Commercial Vehicle Enforcement officers were named Officer of the Year at the region level, including:

• REGION 1: OFC Mark E. Townsend
• REGION 2: Senior Officer Jeremy T. Duvall
• REGION 3: Officer. Mark A. Puckett
• REGION 4: OFC Michael R. Hamblin
• REGION 5: Officer. Jerry C. Hudson
• REGION 6: Officer. Bradley W. Bond
• PROGRAMS: OFC William A. Rein

The 2016 KSP Safe Driving Awards, which recognize the KSP post and Commercial Vehicle Enforcement region with the highest average number of safe driving miles between assessable accidents, were presented to KSP Post 9 in Pikeville and CVE Region 2 in Louisville. Post 9 had a record of 2 million 145,963 miles with no assessable collisions. Region 2 had a record of 567,506 miles with no assessable collisions.

The KSP Citation for Meritorious Achievement, the agency’s highest civilian award bestowed upon individuals who performed an extraordinary act of service or heroism in direct support of an officer of the agency engaged in the official performance of duty, was presented to:

• James Brummall
• Special Agent Brandon Harrison
• Deputy Brandon McIntosh
• Edgar Mills
• Officer Jeff Thomas
• Mark Wood

“Those who protect and serve put their lives on the line every day for the safety of our families and communities,” Secretary John Tilley told the gathering of officers, family and friends at the ceremony. “These awards recognize troopers and officers whose actions have demonstrated bravery above and beyond expectations, and for that the Commonwealth is grateful.”
