HENDERSON, Ky. (8/1/17) — The Ohio Valley Art League announced it will host an Opening Reception for the “Just Jule” Exhibit 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 17 at the OVAL Citi Center Gallery, 230 Second St., Henderson.

The “Just Jule” free exhibit is a retrospective of OVAL’s former Executive Director/Curator Jule McClellan’s work to honor her service and devotion in promoting the visual arts in Henderson and the Tristate for the past 25 years.

McClellan has been painting for 38 years. She primarily works in watercolor but also enjoys creating collage artwork. Her award-winning art has been accepted in numerous exhibits. McClellan’s painting, titled “2:30 p.m.-Taking A Break,” was selected from more than 4,000 entries for inclusion in the Best of Watercolor Series — Painting Light & Shadow published by Rockport Publishers, Rockport, Massachusetts.

McClellan was the founding force of The Ohio Valley Art League. As Executive Director of OVAL, she undertook and implemented many exhibits and projects, organized the first Kentucky National Wildlife Art, and the first recycled art exhibit in the Tristate.

She also was instrumental in the placement of the first public sculpture in Henderson by international sculptor Don Gummer. The idea for a park honoring women was a lifelong dream fulfilled in the building of the Women’s Honor Court in 2014.
