debris stormHENDERSON, Ky. (8/2/17) — A strong storm cell moved through Henderson Tuesday evening left about 700 customers of Henderson Municipal Power and Light without power due to tree damage along the north end.

HMPL crews worked through the evening and nightime and will continue to work through the day, the city of Henderson reported. As of 8 a.m. today, about 150 customers were still without power.

"Most of these are in three areas with pretty severe damage," said HMPL General Manager Chris Heimgartner. "The area off Barret Boulevard between Highways 41 and 60 was badly damaged and will take through today to restore."

He said the wind peaked between 7 to 7:15 p.m., and then dropped abruptly.

"During the most intense part of the gusts, tree branches were breaking all over the north end of town," he said. "Unfortunately, this also did some significant damage to our electrical system."

Heimgartner said in addition to the damage caused by fallen trees and limbs, a scattering of isolated customers all over the city were affected due to the lightning strikes that happened during the same time the cell moved through.

"Our customers have been very patient as we have located and worked through the trouble, and I want to ask for their continued patience as our folks work to restore their power," he said.
