Nick 8 3HENDERSON, Ky. (8/3/17) — A contractor working on a vacant home along the 1600 block of March Lane in Happy Acres subdivision discovered something out of the ordinary stored inside of an outbuilding today.

It was a mortar round, according to authorities.

The contractor called 911, since he did not know whether the mortar was a live or practice round.

Once Henderson County Sheriffs Office arrived at the home, located on the outskirts of Henderson, deputies requested assistance from the Evansville Police Department Bomb Specialist, who responded to the scene.

The Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal Officer from Crane Naval Depot in Crane, Indiana, arrived to transport the mortar from the area.

Additional information was not immediately available on whether the mortar was a live round, which was yellow in color. Blue typically indicates a mortar is a practice round.
