“I have 2 friends that teach in the Houston area at KIPP SHINE Prep," said fifth-grade Jefferson teacher Desiree Piche. "I immediately thought of them when I heard what was happening in Houston. One of the teachers had posted about school being cancelled and that got me thinking about when they would go back, what would they have left. I reached out and, of course, they said they would be grateful for any help with supplies that we could provide."

Jefferson will be collecting school supplies to help the students get back up and running for when they return to classes. Staff, students and community members can drop off donations at Jefferson Elementary School today through Friday, Sept. 8.

Jefferson Elementary school is located at 315 Jackson St. in Henderson.
