city of henderson2017HENDERSON, Ky. (9/13/17) — The city of Henderson Board of Commissioners set a new rate structure for the residual/construction demolition and debris landfill.

The board also authorized a lease agreement with Historic Second LLC for the creation of a “pocket park” along the 200 block of Second Street.

The new fee structure was recommended by the City-County Cooperative Study Commission and previously approved by Henderson Fiscal Court.

The “pocket park” project is a collaborative project of the city, Downtown Henderson Partnership, Henderson County Tourist Commission, Henderson Board of Realtors and others and is intended to stimulate growth in the central business district area. The park will contain a small area for outdoor performance.

In other business, the commission:

• Passed first readings making amendments to the code of ordinances relating to fire prevention, sewer use ordinance and community development. These are part of the ongoing initiative to update the code.

• Passed a resolution authorizing the City’s community development specialist to serve as local administrator for grant programs from the Department of Housing and Urban Development and Kentucky Housing Corporation.

• Authorized a lease between the Henderson Water Utility and Habitat for Humanity of Henderson for use of property at Clark and Third streets.

• Approved a municipal order continuing recycling for commercial businesses through Sept. 30, 2018.

• Awarded bids for a 16 cubic yard refuse packer and a small size SUV for the Codes Department.

• Heard a report from City Manager Russell Sights that included information about the rezoning and narrative development plan at Players Club Golf Course and a request for the placement of a flag pole in Redbanks Park to commemorate the 100-year anniversary of the Henderson Rotary Club.

• Continued a review of the code of ordinances with a discussion of chapter 14, garbage and refuse.

• Heard presentations from PIO Donna Stinnett about the office’s communications plan and heard an update about the Countryview Subdivision project from Buzzy Newman of Henderson Water Utility.

• Presented an employee service award to Glen Oats for 35 years of service.

The next meeting of the Board of Commissioners is set for 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 26, in the third-floor Assembly Room of Henderson Municipal Center, 222 First St.
