HOPKINS COUNTY, KY (2/20/12) – There are times in each of our lives where we go through hard times, particularly when the economy suffers as it is now. Fortunately, there are options to bless those in need during the hard times. One of those options is the Salvation Army in Madisonville.
In beginning, let it be known that this article is not a request for money. It is, however, an opportunity for you to help someone out at no cost to yourself. The Salvation Army assists people in a wide variety of ways.
Most people are unaware that the majority of funds taken in from the Salvation Army Store goes to programs such as feeding the hungry, disaster assistance, helping with utilities for those that cannot afford it, children’s programs, women’s program, assistance with rent, and even prescriptions for those in need. In short, the Salvation Army serves as the hands of Angels when hard times hit.
Salvation Army representative Lisa Berry has stated that this is the most difficult time of the year for store, as local individuals are not donating items very often. SurfKY News urges local citizens to step up and be the helping hand to those currently going through hard times.
The process is simple. Go through your home and choose the items that you don’t need, use, or simply don’t want anymore. This could be anything, including appliances, furniture, lines, toys and games, dishes, decorative items and knick-knacks, prints and paintings, lamps, TV’s, VCR’s, DVD Players, books, or virtually anything that anyone else could use. Load these items in your vehicle, take them down to the Salvation Army Store on McCoy Avenue in Madisonville, and drop them off. The items will be prepped and sold. The funds will then go towards helping someone who is suffering.
If you have furniture, the Salvation Army has a pick-up day on Thursday. Simply call them and they will come and pick it up.
With nothing more than gathering the things you don’t want or need, you can help others through a time of hardship, and be a prayer answered.
Note: All items need to be in resalable condition. Furniture should not be broken, have rips or tears in it, or stained.
