INNOVATE HOPKINSHOPKINS COUNTY, Ky. (5/19/17) — The Madisonville Hopkins County Economic Development announced today that two Hopkins County Students were selected this year to participate in the Kentucky Governor's Schools Programs.

Hopkins County Career and Technology Center students, Andrew Milum and Matt Holmes have been selected to participate in the 2017 Governor’s School for Entrepreneurs Program. Matt and Andrew were also recently First Place Winners in the Idea Competition and the Best Use of Technology at The Next Big Thing Competition.

The Governor’s School is the first Governor’s school in the nation with a focus on entrepreneurship and innovation. GSE is a three-week innovative and entrepreneurial experience for teens. It encourages teens to share and develop their ideas into innovative products and services in an exploratory learning environment. Admission to GSE is by competitive application. GSE uses lean start up methodology. Student entrepreneurs learn by doing, through the framework of business model design, customer discover and agile product development. GSE gives Kentucky's young aspiring entrepreneurs a hands-on, experiential immersion into innovation and entrepreneurship in order to empower them to make a positive impact on their communities through innovation and to become business leaders of tomorrow.

“Andrew and Matt are prime examples of what smart, industrious young people we have in Hopkins County. We will continue to do everything we can at EDC to build the entrepreneurial foundation that allows anyone of any age in Hopkins County to succeed and to create job opportunities for others. The sky is the limit for these young men”, said Ray Hagerman President.
