HCSO LogoHOPKINS COUNTY, Ky. (7/31/17) — Residents around the Oak Hill Subdivision woke up to find several items missing from their vehicles.

Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office Major Will Coursey said a deputy responded to the residential area this morning to investigate.

“Looks like we’ve had quite a few thefts,” Coursey said. “Deputy Stratton is still gathering evidence.”

HCSO reported several cars had been ransacked, and there are no suspects at the moment.

Resident Tara Ruark said someone stole about $85 from her unlocked vehicle late Sunday night or early this morning, adding someone had also taken items from her husband’s and neighbor’s vehicle.

“A lot of people leave their cars unlocked,” Coursey said. “It’s important to keep car doors locked and to take valuables inside. There’s a lot of target opportunities in a subdivision, where people out walking can hit 20 cars in 10 minutes.”
