• The Eli Barron invitational golf tournament begins 7 a.m. today and continues Sunday at Madisonville County Club. For information call 270-821-3700.

• MPD Cram the Cruiser (school supply collection) is 8 a.m.-2 p.m., today at Hanson Walmart.

• The Dust Bowl summer basketball tournament and activities is today and Sunday at Festus Claybon Park in Madisonville. The event will bring awareness to health issues such as blood pressure, diabetes and cholesterol. During the event, coordinators will help with school supplies, back-to-school haircuts and hairdos.

• A Farmers Market Appreciation Day is 7:30 a.m.-2 p.m. today at the Ballard Convention Center Midway Building, Hopkins County Fairgrounds. Events include local food vendors, food sampling, demonstrations, representatives from Pennyroyal Master Gardeners, educational and informational booths, 4-H representatives, children's activities and Rooster's Beef.

• Common Garments Ministry will hold a back-to-school party beginning at 8 a.m. today with food and free backpacks to be given to the first 300 children who show up at 10 a.m. Music by the Stone Family will also be provided. Proceeds will benefit Elizabeth's House.

• Superhero City will hold a kids' crusade and back to school bash 11 a.m.-1 p.m. today at Restoration Church, 1140 W. Noel Ave., Madisonville. The event will feature free school supplies, lunch, crafts and prizes. For more information, call 270-348-0030.

• Christview Fellowship Church, 2135 N. Main St., is hosting a Back to School Kickoff beginning at 6:30 p.m. today with water fun for kids of all ages. Starting at 8:30, outdoor movie "Case for Christ" will be shown, and free hotdogs, popcorn and soda will be served. Participants are asked to bring lawn chairs.

• Christ Church Holiness will celebrate Women's Day at 3 p.m. Sunday with a theme of “Women in White Purifying for the Lord." The guest will be Evangelist Sherri Wilson and a special musical arrangement, 526 Hopewell, Madisonville.

• Hanson Baptist Church will hold a back-to-school bash at 5 p.m. Sunday, 130 Sunset Road. Activities include a meal, inflatables, dunking booth, cornhole tournament, games and school supplies. For more information, call Leslie Allen at 270-871-0165.

• Hopkins County Board of Education will meet at 5:30 p.m., Monday, at Central Office, 320 S. Seminary St., Madisonville.

• There will be a special called meeting to be held by the Hopkins County School District Finance Corporation during the regularly scheduled board meeting at 5:30 p.m., Monday at Central Office, 320 S. Seminary St., Madisonville.

• Baptist Health Madisonville will host a blood drive from 6 a.m.-6 p.m. Aug. 8-9 in the Baptist Health donor room.

• Centershot archery and devotional classes will be held August-October at the First Baptist Church gymnasium in Madisonville. The classes are free to students, but donations to the archery program will be accepted. Classes will take place at 9 a.m. Aug. 5, Aug. 12, Aug. 19, Sept. 9, Sept. 16, Sept. 23, Sept. 30 and Oct. 7.

• Baptist Health Blood Bank will be conducting blood drives at Dawson Springs Housing Authority 1:30-6 p.m. Aug. 15, First Presbyterian Church 12-6 p.m. Aug. 16 and West Hopkins School 3-7 p.m. Aug. 19.
