CTC 1MADISONVILLE, Ky. (8/8/17) — Police say they had a record year during Madisonville Police Department’s “Cram the Cruiser” event Saturday at Walmart in Hanson.

MPD Public Information Officer Lt. Andy Rush reported officers and Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office deputies collected more than $8,000 worth of school supplies during the charity drive.

The items will stock each family resource center in the Hopkins County School District, Rush said.

“This is the seventh year MPD has collected the supplies to ensure all school kids have the necessary supplies needed to start the school year,” he said. “This year’s total exceeds last year’s campaign by over $3,000!”

MPD Citizens Police Unit volunteers helped officers Monday at the station to sort the learning materials that completely filled the police Hummer.

Officers say they are grateful to the community for continued support of children.
