Andy Rush MPDMADISONVILLE, Ky. (8/16/17) — City officials offer residents important tips leading into Monday’s solar eclipse.

Madisonville Police Department Public Information Officer Lt. Andy Rush announced the city would like everyone to be prepared as possibly up to 100,000 or more visitors travel into the area.

The following suggestions submitted are listed below:

Travel

• If you plan to travel, expect a lot of traffic delays and additional motorists on the roadway. It would not hurt to have a little extra water or food in the car in case you get stuck in traffic.

Plan Ahead

• Do not wait until the last minute to fill up your car with gas or get groceries. With the additional people in town, it is important to stock up on needed items ahead of time.

Prepare

• Fill necessary medications at the pharmacy before the eclipse event. If you wait to fill them, you might not have them in time of need.

Cell Phones

• Do not rely on your cell service during the eclipse event. With the influx of people to our region, it is likely that cell service will be much slower. If you are heading out for the eclipse, make sure someone knows where you are.

The Sun

• Finally, do not look directly at the sun! Please use a pair of solar eclipse glasses (available at many places around town).
