HOPKINSVILLE, KY (1/27/12) – The American Academy of Sleep Medicine has accredited the Sleep Disorders and Neurodiagnostic Center at Jennie Stuart Medical Center to provide sleep studies in the home. JSMC’s sleep center is already accredited to provide sleep studies at the hospital and now is the only sleep lab in the area to hold dual accreditation.
The sleep center started offering home sleep tests last year to make testing more convenient and cost effective. “The Academy has strict guidelines about who qualifies for this type of testing. It recommends home sleep tests only be performed on patients who have no underlying co-morbidities, no other suggested sleep disorders, and who physically cannot have a study conducted in the sleep center,” says Manoj Majmudar, MD, FCCP, medical director, JSMC Sleep Disorders Center.
“This additional accreditation for what is called out-of-center testing lets the public know that we are excellent at diagnosing and treating many types of sleep disorders,” says Brandi Sandbrink, manager of the Sleep Disorders Center. Sandbrink adds, “It’s the latest quality indicator for our department that treats more than 1,100 patients per year.”
The sleep center treats patients from age two and up for insomnia to sleep apnea and about 90 other types of sleep disorders. Daytime tours of the four-bed sleep center are available to ease patient fears about what occurs during sleep studies. For more information, call 270-887-JSMC, ext. 6883.
