HOPKINSVILLE, KY (1/31/12) – Christian County Public Schools Superintendent Brady Link took time to speak with SurfKY News during Saturday’s Regional Education Summit. The event was held at the Hopkinsville Community College and included the public schools of Christian, Todd, and Trigg Counties.
When asked about Christian County Public Schools moving up 65 spots in state rankings, Link praised the hard work that teachers put in every day. He also recognized those outside the school walls, “I’ve got to compliment this community. This is an example, this education summit of how this community is working with us…partnering with educators to make the opportunities available for our students…much more available and the opportunities for us to get better.” Link says members of this community realize that what students to today in the classroom will be manifested in our community in the future.
Link also commented on the fact that 80% of Christian County Public Schools are closing the achievement gap. He said it is important to reach students early, “We’ve got to be able to address our students immediately when they get to school. The early childhood is a major factor… all the research points to the fact that if you get our students when it’s early that gap closes much quicker.”
Link also agreed with Bill Grace, the keynote speaker for the event, who suggested that parents partner with teachers by asking two questions each day, “When your children come home, ask them ‘What did you learn today?’ and ‘Do you have any homework?’” Link continued by saying that parents who show they care about their children, their children excel.
