HOPKINSVILLE, KKY - Virginia Gaynelle Phelps Cooley, 69, Christian Health Center, passed away at 5:33 a.m. Thursday, February 9, 2012 at Jennie Stuart Medical Center of natural causes.
A native of Morgantown, KY born January 10, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Charles Phelps and Gladys Hunt Phelps Shelton. She had been a drug and alcohol counselor for the State of KY for 20 years with 12 of those years being at Volta. She was of the Baptist faith and was a member of A.A. – R.E.B.O.S. She was the widow of Harold Cooley who passed away in October 2003.
Survivors include one son, Brandon Flowers, Camby, IN, three daughters; Karen Lynn Flowers, Hopkinsville, Holly Norris and her husband Richard, Crofton, KY and Marsha Spain and her husband Chris of Hopkinsville, one brother, William Tyler and his wife Colleen, Clarksville, IN and six grandchildren; Stacie Norris, Hannah Davidson, Richard Norris, Dylan Norris, Caleb Spain and Tristan Norris.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Kaleb Testerman who passed away in October 1997.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 11, 2012 at Hughart & Beard Funeral Home in Hopkinsville conducted by Rev. Dr. Arthur Burrows, Chaplain Phillip Lee and Howard Dixon. In accordance with her wishes, her remains will be cremated following the service. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until the service hour of 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
