HOPKINSVILLE, KY - Lessie Smith McCarty, 97, of Hopkinsville, KY formerly of Laurel, Mississippi passed away at 8:18 p.m. Tuesday, February 14, 2012 at Christian Health Center of natural causes.
A native of Copiah County, MS she was born May 30, 1914 the daughter of the late Rev. George and Nina Smith. She retired from the Jones County Health Department in 1977.
She was a member of First Trinity Presbyterian Church in Laurel, MS, and attended First Presbyterian Church in Hopkinsville, KY. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, the Home Demonstration Club, and the Presbyterian Women of the Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh McCarty (1992), and an infant daughter, Evelyn Gay McCarty (1938).
She is survived by her sons: Davis McCarty (Sandra) of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL and Vern McCarty of Atlanta, GA; her daughter: Vickie McCarty Sisk (Marion) of Hopkinsville, KY; her sisters: Libba Matthews of Clinton, MS, Annette Yarbrough of Meridian, MS, Aileene Thompson of Laurel, MS, and Martha Jo Hayes (Jim) of Hattiesburg, MS; her brothers: Lewis Smith of Pascagoula, MS and George Smith (Joyce) of Laurel, MS; her grandchildren: Rick McCarty (Cissy) of Madison, MS, Patrick McCarty (Casey) of Birmingham, AL, Joseph Sisk (Lisa) of Hopkinsville, KY and Nina Sisk Cantrell (Oliver) of New York City, NY; her step granddaughter: Crystal Sisk of Baltimore, MD; and six great grandchildren.
Services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at First Trinity Presbyterian Church in Laurel, MS with burial to follow in Erata Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. Monday, February 20, 2012 at Memory Chapel in Laurel, MS. Hughart & Beard Funeral Home in Hopkinsville, KY is in charge of local arrangements.
