
BENTON, KY (1/20/12) – The following students at Benton Middle School placed first in the region and 10th in the state in the Stock Market Game this past fall in Coach Harvey's Social Studies Class. Charlie Borders, Grant Johnson, Griffin Cavitt, and Keegan Cole took part in a ten week simulation where they had $100,000 to invest in the stock market. Some of the groups top stocks were Google, Nike, Dollar General, and Johnson and Johnson. The Stock Market game was based out of Louisville and had over 300 teams participate across the state .
The Stock Market Game™ program offers a vast library of learning materials correlated to national voluntary and state educational standards in Math, Business Education, Economics, English/Language Arts, Technology, Social Studies and Family and Consumer Sciences. This resource has inspired many teachers to incorporate the program into classes in creative ways — at all levels, from fourth grade to college, all across the curriculum.
The program also teaches and reinforces these essential skills and concepts:
• Critical thinking
• Decision-making
• Cooperation and communication
• Independent research
• Saving and investing
