05 18 2017 HFMA Award

MURRAY, KY. (5/19/17) — Murray-Calloway County Hospital has been named as a recipient of the 2017 MAP Award for High Performance in Revenue Cycle, sponsored by the Healthcare Financial Management Association.

As a national award winner, MCCH has met industry-standard revenue cycle benchmarks, implemented the patient-centered recommendations and best practices embodied in HFMA’s Healthcare Dollars & Sense® initiatives, and achieved outstanding patient satisfaction. Award recipients are acknowledged as industry leaders and share proven strategies with their colleagues. The award will be formally presented on June 25 at HFMA's annual conference in Orlando, Fla.

Murray-Calloway County Hospital was among 17 winners selected from more than 110 facilities that began the application process for this year’s award.

“Changes in the healthcare system force us to continue taking a closer look at our financial operations. Receiving national recognition for these efforts is an honor and designates our financial practices as “best of the best”. I’m very proud of the work that David and our entire revenue cycle operations folks have done over the last three years,” said Dirk Morgan, VP Finance of MCCH.

“Congratulations to all of our winning organizations, which have not only adopted HFMA’s Best Practices for Patient Financial Communications but also achieved excellence in revenue cycle overall,” said HFMA President and CEO Joseph J. Fifer, FHFMA, CPA. “These exceptional organizations have superior processes for communicating complex financial issues to patients in understandable ways.”

Created by and for healthcare leaders, HFMA’s MAP initiative sets the standard for revenue cycle excellence in the healthcare industry. MAP is a comprehensive strategy that allows organizations to measure revenue cycle performance using the industry-standard MAP Keys; apply evidence-based strategies for improvement; and perform to the highest standards to improve financial results and patient satisfaction.

The revenue cycle is the entire life of a patient account from creation to medical record maintenance to billing to payment. The MCCH revenue cycle operation has made several improvements in this process which led to this national recognition. Those improvements include the following:

• Upgraded and modified the patient registration process

• Created more external partnerships to increase patient loan options, and improved processes with our partnering collection agencies to reduce account write-offs

• Established more efficient billing and collection processes and workflow among employees

• Provided additional financial assistance and payment plan options for patients

• Improved patient record maintenance both in the inpatient and outpatient settings
