James Comer 2015WASHINGTON, D.C. (8/8/17) — U.S. Rep. James Comer announced he is traveling to Israel this week as part of a congressional delegation attending an educational seminar on critical foreign policy and national security issues facing Israel and the U.S.

Comer and other members of Congress will engage in discussions with members of Israel’s parliament, government officials from both the U.S. and Israel, military officers, and representatives from the Palestinian Authority. While in Israel, Comer will also receive briefings on Iran’s compliance with the 2015 nuclear deal, the prospects for an Israeli-Palestinian peace process, and the current terror threat in the region.

“Israel and America share an unbreakable bond," Comer said. "Our longstanding friendship is built on our shared democratic values and close partnerships on defense, trade, agriculture and many other mutual interests. As a proud supporter of the State of Israel, I believe that efforts to strengthen the bond between our two governments, such as this Congressional delegation trip, are incredibly valuable. I look forward to meeting with Israeli leaders to discuss a number of challenges facing our two nations, as well as new opportunities for collaboration and innovation, particularly those that would benefit my constituents in the First District of Kentucky."

The trip will be led by the American Israel Education Foundation, a charitable organization that is affiliated with the bipartisan American Israel Public Affairs Committee. No taxpayer dollars will be used to fund this travel, which adheres to all House Ethics rules, Comer reported.

The congressman will return to Kentucky on Aug. 15.
