GREENVILLE, Ky (7/18/17) — Job Corps National Director Lenita Jacobs-Simmons joined Y2Y students by video-teleconference from the Job Corps national office in Washington, D.C. to congratulate and thank them for their Youth2Youth Partners4Peace initiatives.

Muhlenberg Job Corps Center is the first Job Corps center in the nation to obtain all seven badges in the National Job Corps Youth2Youth Badge program. The seven badges, which show Muhlenberg's outstanding participation in the Y2Y anti-violence program and commitment to promote peace and tolerance for all, are Community Engagement; Blog Submission; In the News; Y2Y Committee Establishment; MLK Jr. Day of Service; Y2Y Week 2016; and, Material Distribution.

During the 30-minute meeting with the national director, students asked questions about the Y2Y program, Jacobs-Simmons’ experiences and the expectations of the Y2Y initiative going forward.

Jacobs-Simmons described the Y2Y program as, “a young people’s initiative to change the future.”

She then asked, “Who in this room believes violent video games are a problem?” When most of the students raised their hand, she said, “I can’t believe that. I asked that question because I thought most of you would disagree with me. Television, video games and movies are a lot different now than they were when I was growing up. I believe this has negative consequences and you all are the future of our country. You will one day be the leaders, and we need to keep you around in order to do that.”

In response to Y2Y Ambassador Elizabeth Jones’ question, “What inspires you the most?” Jacobs-Simmons responded, “You all do.”

The students closed by inviteing her to join them at the Muhlenberg Job Corps Center next year for the center’s annual Easter Egg Hunt.

The Muhlenberg Job Corps Center serves youth ages 17-24 that meet the minimum requirements.  They can obtain vocational skills training and other necessary education to be successful in a chosen career.  More than 70 percent of Job Corps students earn industry-recognized credentials in one of more than 100 trades in high growth industries.  If you know someone who could benefit from the free program, contact Jodi Ashby at (270) 377-3269.
