UPDATE:

CLEATON, Ky. (9/24/17) — A Central City woman died in a two-vehicle collision today at the intersection of U.S. 431 and Cleaton “Cut Off” Road.

Kentucky State Police determined Amanda Travis, 31 of Central City was headed north at approximately 1 p.m. on U.S. 431 in a 2006 Jeep Compass. As Travis approached the intersection with Cleaton “Cut Off” Road, a red Ford Focus pulled in front of her attempt to cross both lanes of U.S. 431 headed toward Greenville.

Travis was unable to avoid the collision with the Focus and struck the vehicle in the driver’s side door.

Christine Dennison, 79, was the driver and was pronounced dead at the scene by Muhlenberg County Deputy Coroner Larry Vincent.

Travis was transported to St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Evansville, Indiana by PHI Air Medical.

Trooper Justin Cornett is in charge of the investigation. He was assisted at the scene by Trooper Brian Graves, KSP Sgt. Jon McGehee, Central City Fire Department, Muhlenberg County EMS and Muhlenberg County Sheriff’s Office.

ORIGINAL STORY:

MUHLENBERG COUNTY, Ky. (9/24/17) — Workers have cleared the wreckage from the scene of an apparent two-vehicle accident that occurred this afternoon along U.S. 431/Cleaton Cutoff Road.

U.S. 431 was reopened to traffic about 2:40 p.m. today.

Wreckers were seen carrying away an SUV and another vehicle from the area. The accident possibly involved a fatality. Kentucky State Police were reconstructing the scene.

More information will be provided as it becomes available.
