LEXINGTON, Ky. (11/13/13) – The No. 7 ranked UK Women's basketball squad stretched their winning streak to 3-0 Wednesday after destroying Georgia Southern during the Cats' home opener, 103-38.
Bernisha Pinkett led the Cats with 19 points. Kastine Evans followed with 15 points, and DeNesha Stallworth and Linnae Harper tied with 13 points each. Azia Bishop earned a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds.
The Cats started off the game strong with a 10-0 run, which led to a 49-13 halftime lead. That score tied a school record for scoring margin.
UK forced 35 turnovers and shot 51 percent, also shooting 56 percent from the free-throw line. Georgia Southern couldn't compete with field goals, only shooting 21 percent. But what Georgia Southern lacked in field goal shooting, they made up for in free-throws, scoring 70 percent from the charity stripe.
Leading the scoring for Georgia Southern was Angel McGowan, who shook off a second half ankle injury and scored 10 points. Right behind her was Briana Jones with 7 points.
The UK women's next challenge will come up on Sunday, Nov. 17 when they'll take on Central Michigan University. Game time is set for 2 p.m. at Memorial Coliseum.
