Overseas Soldier to Join Daughter in OHS Recognition Ceremony Via Skype

soldier flagOWENSBORO, Ky. (2/21/14) – Owensboro High School Senior Samantha Blackburn, a member of the OHS Dance Team, will be among winter athletics team members who will be recognized Friday, Feb. 21, at approximately 6:45 p.m. between the JV and Varsity Boys' Basketball Games (OHS vs. Henderson Co.) at the OHS gym.

Samantha’s mother, Heather Blackburn will be there to walk her daughter down court when senior athletes are recognized between games.

But her dad, Major James Blackburn, is serving in the U.S. Air Force in Qatar, Afghanistan, and can’t be there in person.

However, the school plans to do the next best thing. They arranged to have her dad with her via Skype.

Game Announcer Mike Hayes will introduce Samantha and talk about what her dad is doing.

Then, Heather Blackburn will walk her daughter down the court along with her dad via Skype.

He will be “Skyped” in on a laptop sitting on a cart that will be push down the court with her.

The laptop will be turned toward the crowd and in front of her so that Major Blackburn will essentially be walking with her and getting to watch her receive her senior recognition.
